Well hello there!
My name is Jaffa Brown, and I am the main author of the items on this web site/blog.
I am a Small Business Owner (SME), a software developer and Tea addict from the UK. I am into (and tweet about) everything regarding Business Growth, SME tips, Productivity, & Freelancing. I am Mostly Harmless.
If you are looking for a regular (but not too frequent) feed of Freelance, Contracting and small business advice, please take a look at my twitter feed. I generally only tweet 2 or 3 times a day, so no overload from me!
I am often asked what is the two or three items of advice I would give freelancers or those starting out. They are as follows:
- Get a good cheap accounts system – I discuss why here
- Communicate with everybody as often as you can – customers, prospects, colleagues.
- Know where you want to get to via goals – I have NEVER set a goal which I have not reached. Never!! More here
Want to know more? Well here is an except from my LinkedIn bio:
Jaffa is a technical consultant specialising in Date Warehouse and Health systems. Capable in data warehouse design, development and support, and able to program in C# and VB using VB6 through to VS.NET 2008. This includes ASP.NET.
Now working as the technical director for an IT consultancy and software development company, with customers as large as BT Health and as small as one man consultancy companies.
Mixed with common sense, this allows him to work through software developments from initial customer meetings for requirement gathering, analysis of the requirement, designing the solution, hands on technical development through to implementation. Whilst able to deliver through hands-on creation, Jaffa also has many years of technical team leadership running development teams ranging from 2 to 48 people in size. Jaffas leadership style is to lead from the front by example, whilst at the same time infusing a passion for technology and process leading to gains in quality and output through best practice.
